VACAVILLE, California — Airport managers from around the state are expected
to recommend formation of a new statewide airports group when they meet here
Sept. 30 at the Nut Tree Airport.
The proposed new California Association of Airport Executives would be
designed to unite big and small airports across the state and strengthen
their hand in dealing with the California Legislature.
“Airports have been hurt because we don’t have a strong voice when we talk
to the Legislature,” said Harry Krug, who manages the Colusa County Airport.
“The state has money, but it is not directed to airports as adequately as it
could be.”
Krug said airport managers in California have been discussing the need for a
statewide organization for at least three years.
“We are looking for a group that would represent all airports,” Krug said.
“We wouldn’t leave anybody out.”
He said the new group would not compete with the Southwest Chapter of the
American Association of Airport Executives, which also includes members from
Nevada and Arizona.
